    • A citizen

    Who is Eligible for a South Africa Dependent Visa?

    Individuals with citizenship, permanent residency, work permit or a student permit can bring their dependents to South Africa with the Relative visa. They can be:

    Here are some basic conditions for dependents to be eligible to apply for a Relative’s Visa:

    • The sponsor who is residing in South Africa needs to declare his/her financial status. Currently, it is SAR 8,500 per person per month.

    This is to prove whether they can look after the Dependent family member without needing any financial support, like state benefits or other such funds.

    • Also, the Relative’s Visa is valid for the same duration as that of their family member in South Africa.
    • Any applicant with a temporary visa permit can apply for a permanent residence only after 5 years.
    • The Relative’s Visa applicant must provide proof that they can buy return tickets or the sponsor must provide proof that they can facilitate them.

    According to the South Africa immigration law, a “spouse” is defined as a legally wedded husband/wife, be it same-sex or opposite.

    • A dependent spouse cannot work or study in South Africa based on the Relative’s visa. If they wish to work or study, then they must apply for a work or student visa.

    How Can I Apply for a South Africa Dependent Visa?

    • You should dress suitably.

    If your family member in South Africa has a permanent residence/citizen status in South Africa, then as a dependent you must fill form DHA -947.

    If your family member in South Africa has a temporary residence status in South Africa with a work visa or a student visa, then as a dependent you must fill form DHA -1738.

    Follow these guidelines while filling the application form:

    • Select the closest city. The city from where you will apply.
    • Note down the application number.
    • Answer all the questions in English, and by using the English alphabets only.
    • Sign the application online.
    • Upload your digital photo. If there is any technical error then you can carry this photo or get clicked at the consulate.
    • Print a copy of your application. You will need it at the consulate or embassy.

    You must visit your nearest embassy or consulate along with all the necessary documents.

    You must state the type of visa that you are applying for.

    Once you have applied you will receive a notification from immigration services, embassy, or consulate.

    The immigration department of South Africa will hand over the Relative’s Visa if it has been approved.

    The immigration services might take anything from 7 days to 60 days time to decide on your application.
