    Conditions for a dependent spouse

    • According to Malaysian Immigration Law, a ‘spouse’ is defined as a legally wed husband/wife.
    •  According to the Malaysian Immigration Law, a customary and common law marriage is considered a lawful marriage, only if it is recognized as a legal marriage in the marriage country.

     

    Conditions for a dependent child

    According to Malaysia immigration laws, an applicant is eligible for a dependent child status if he or she is:

    • Unmarried.
    • Under 21 years of age.
    • A biological child born in wedlock.
    • A biological child born out of wedlock, if the parent has bonafide proof of the parent-child relationship.
    • A stepchild, if that child’s biological parent and his/her partner got married before the child turned 18.

    Applicants with a Student Pass can bring dependents only if their course duration is more than 12 months.

    Here are some general guidelines for photographs required in a Dependent Pass application:

    • It should be the latest colour photograph. (not older than three months)
    • It should be a passport-sized digital photograph.
    • It should be in a solid, plain-white, or grey background.
    • It should be 35 mm by 50 mm in size. The face must be at the centre.
    • It should show at least 80% of your face (religious head-covers are allowed, provided they do not cover your face).
    • Face the camera with a regular expression (a faint smile).
    • Only prescription glasses allowed. No sunglasses or other accessories. (exception: a hearing aid)
    • Dress suitably(Preferably in professional attire).

    You must fill the application form with valid information.

    • Select the closest city. (the city from where you will apply)
    • Note down the application number.
    • Answer all the questions in English, and by using the English alphabets only.
    • Sign the application online.
    • Upload your digital photo. If there is a technical error, you can carry this photo or get clicked at the Consulate.

     

    Print a copy of your application. You will need it at the Consulate or the Embassy.

    You must visit your nearest Embassy or Consulate along with all the necessary documents.

    You must state the type of visa that you are applying for.

    For the Student Pass holders, the Dependent Pass application is generated by the educational institute itself.

    Once you have applied, you will receive a notification from the Immigration Services, Embassy, or Consulate.

    The Immigration Department of Malaysia will issue a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) if your Dependent Pass has been approved.

    The dependent family members will then get the Visa Approval Letter (VAL) to apply for a Malaysian Visa with reference at your nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate.

    The Immigration Services ideally takes 7 days to one month to decide on your application.

    The fee structure for a Dependent Pass is as follows:

    • Pass: RM90/year or part after that
    • Processing fee: RM50
    • Journey performing fee: RM500 (if applicable)
